WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER

Gothenburg 2022

For two hours in a crowded street in Gothenburg I walked around blindfolded with an embroidered sign ”Can I hold your hand for a while, please?” A lot of people dared to hold my hand. There were short and firm handshakes, some held my hand for a long time, some of them held gently and others stressfully. One young man with his “gang” around him rescued me from being hit by a car. He hesitated for a long time, seemed to feel embarrassed at first but then decided that someone had to do something about the situation with the crazy lady.

The Swedish election took place three days after the performance and I wanted to raise the question of trust in society. Trust is an essential element in a democracy but the discontent parties undermine it and societal trust is broken especially among young people in Sweden.
