ELEGY FOR AN EMPTY HOUSE

Vänersborg 2024

On our street in the small town stands an abandoned house. The people of the house and the tragedies -  we all read of them in the local paper. Plundered and overgrown for months, still it stands. In its silence, the house commands us to embrace the hidden tragedies of every house in town.

A monument to invisible grief buried in gardens. To failed attempts at life built into quiet streets.

This summer, I wanted to thank the house. I made people rise at 4:30 to join my ceremony, in an elegy for the abandoned house. If I conveyed my intention remains unclear (sleep likely filled their thoughts), but afterwards we all believed we had dreamed a strange, sad, yet beautiful dream.
